At Food is Fun we pride ourselves on being adaptable and the Covid-19 pandemic really proved how adaptable we actually are. With lockdown and face to face restrictions we were unable to deliver any of our events, communities or schools work in the same way as before. Were we going to let that beat us? Absolutely not!
During 2020 we moved to delivering as many of our activities and services as we could to online. Here are a few of the things we did:
We worked with over 100 families to teach them and their children how to cook a range of healthy, quick and easy family-friendly meals through various online platforms.
We ran an online street party event to celebrate VEDAY75.
We delivered our nutrition element of our Pick and Mix Enrichment Programme to primary schools via the big screen.
We delivered our Cook and Care project to 40 people who were socially isolated due to the pandemic – providing company and conversation as well as food by recruiting Food Buddies.
We created our Food Buddies South West 💚 Facebook to create an online community supporting people around food.
We designed and printed our Cook Wise book to give to various communities across the city.
We designed recipe sheets to support families on a budget which went to every household in Plymouth in receipt of free school meals.
We supported families who have fled domestic abuse via online chat and at an outdoor cookery workshop where we picked and cooked foraged ingredients.
We delivered our Bake and Banter course for veterans online. This meant we were able to offer it to those outside of Plymouth too.
We are tremendously proud of the difference we make to those we work with and are forever looking forward to our next project. You can find out about our current and future activities on both our Facebook page and in the Latest News section on our website.
